Our programmes are designed to offer what young people want and to let parents rest assured that their children are in safe hands.
We are a Royal Yachting Association Recognised Training Centre and hold an Adventure Activities License.
Our courses are divided into age groups, so the equipment and programmes will be suitable. Within each age group we will also team you up on ability. This can be based on qualifications you already hold or any previous experience you tell us about. You can also tell us what you want to achieve or if you have friends you want to be with.
RYA Youth Scheme courses each have a set syllabus and standards required to attain a certificate. Reaching the standard should be realistic within the timescale of each course but sometimes more time, input or practice may be required. RYA logbooks allow for individual sections to be signed off as they are achieved. The final award of a certificate will take place when all sections have been completed.
The best advice is to start practising your new skills as soon as possible after the course, and there’s no better way than to join HLSTC as a Junior Member or to extend your Family membership to include the Junior benefits. A Junior Boat Pass provides use of an appropriate boat and access to any Youth Club sessions. Once you reach RYA Stage 3, you can join in with Club racing or sail whenever the lake is open for use.
What next? Once you’ve reached Stage 4, and hopefully had a chance to practice the skills you learnt, why not look at completing one or more of the advanced modules. These courses each focus on the specific skills relating to a specific area of dinghy sailing.
Individual or private group courses can be arranged through the office. Usually only weekdays are available for private tuition and cost will vary depending on the activity and participants. Contact us for further details and costs for 1:1 tuition.
